Deschutes River at Mecca Flats

The Central Oregon Thanksgiving fishing outing has become a tradition for the men in the family. Last year was the Fall River, and the year before the Crooked. This year we ventured down to Mecca Flats. Deschutes River at Folly Waters

IMG_0791Coming over from the Willamette Valley, Central Oregon seems like an entirely separate state. It’s rocky and dry, and the pines and juniper make the whole region smell different too. Metolius River

IMG_0582For Father’s Day the old man and I went out to explore the Metolius, an easy drive from their place. Like all the other rivers in the blog so far, I’ve been to the Metolius before. I still think it’s the most beautiful river I’ve ever fished. The spring-fed water is clear and blue and cold, and although the trees make back casting a fly rod difficult, they frame it beautifully.
